PLACE PUBLISHED: JAPAN. Date published: [c.1890-1900]. Large Oblong Folio. 11.0" x 14.5" Inches. (LxB). Japanese Lacquered Photograph Album containing a Collection of 75 hand-colored photographs, each approx. 3½x5¼, mounted to heavier paper and captioned in letterpress beneath. There are 14 black & white original photo's (early 1900's) at the end of the album. Includes a very wide variety of scenes including temples, street scenes, merchants, craftsmen, costumes, architectural and the natural beauty of Japan. The pictorial lacquered wooden boards with gilt-stamped dark brown leather spine, front cover elaborately hand-painted scene of rickshaw man pulling woman passenger each with ivory inlay hands and heads (man also with ivory legs and feet, womans hair ivory painted black), chiefly gilt coloring, plus orange, brown, black and gray, Mt. Fuji in background, white moiré endpapers, gilt dentelles, all edges gilt. A classic work. Complete as issued.
